  1. 1. The story takes place in Ontario, Canada.
    2. The story takes place in February 2000.
    3. Katie Pine's body was found in a mineshaft on Windigo Island, which is why the killer was named "the Windigo".
    4. Throughout the novel, the climat was constantly cold and late-winter. There was always snow on the ground, which symbolizes the struggle that John Cardinal and his team went through during the investigation and how the case was frozen in place.
    5. The story takes place over the course of at least one month, since it began in February and there was snow on the ground during the whole story.
